Drive-In/Drive-Thru Rack

Drive-in and drive-thru racks are high density storage structures where pallets are stored multiple levels high and multiple levels deep on a rail system. Forklifts drive into rack structure for picking and put away.

Advantages

  • High density with minimal aisles
  • Good for floor stack applications where pallet structural integrity does not allow pallets to be stored on top of each other and compromise product
  • Drive-thru has no lateral structure at back of unit allowing access from two aisles

Disadvantages

  • Only good where you have multiple pallets of the same SKU
  • Least selectivity than any other type of rack system
  • More expensive than floor stacking
  • Only rack system where forklift operator actually drives into system
  • Drive-in can only be accessed from one aisle
